The X-Factor is the rotational separation between your pelvis and your upper body. While many traditional instructors once preached "keeping the hips still" to build tension, modern biomechanics tells a different story. Locking your pelvis doesn't create power; it creates a ceiling.
 
To create a functional "rotational spring," the pelvis must rotate naturally. For most high-level ball strikers, this looks like a 45° pelvis turn coupled with a 90° upper-body turn. However, it’s important to understand that the X-Factor is a three-dimensional reality. It isn't a simple 2D subtraction of two angles; it’s influenced by forward bend, side bend, and the 3D orientation of your torso. By turning the upper body further than the lower body within this 3D space, you load the deep musculature of the trunk, storing energy for the strike.
